That’s the title of my favorite song by this couple from Mali. It means that sundays are wedding days in Bamako, the capital of Mali in Western Africa, where Amadou and Mariam come from.
Amadou and Mariam are both blind and they met at a school for the blind in the 1970s. Their style of Afro-Beat got lots of international attention. Especially when Manu Chao, formerly of Mano Negra, recorded an album with them.
They played to a nearly sold out audience in Berlin’s “Kesselhaus” on February 19th, 2009 and two friends and me plowed our way through several inches of snow to make it there. What a great contrast: Winter wonderland outside, Afro-Beat inside. This was their first show in Berlin since 2006 and the crowd was very enthusiastic. It was a mixed crowd, featuring everything from dreadlock rastas to banker types. Everyone enjoyed the two hours including two encores, one of which was “Le Dimanche à Bamako”…

Meet Barry and Stuart from Mogwai. These two scottish lads took some time to sit down and talk to my laptop about their latest album “The Hawk Is Howling”. I wanted to know for example why the put a picture of a bald-headed eagle on the cover instead of a howling hawk. They offer some insight on how to kill the queen of England and explain why Stuart isn’t sent up local Glasgow chimneys anymore.
Watch the whole iNterview with Mogwai here on Hobnox!

Here it is, finally. Ladies and gents, we present the iNterview International Noise Conspiracy. Dennis and Lars sat down with one of our laptops to discuss their latest groovy anti-capitalist album “The Cross Of My Calling”, which was produced by mastermind Rick Rubin and released on American Recordings.
We tested Dennis and Lars on their knowledge of politics and philosophy, by giving them quotes which were either from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Karl Marx, Stalin or Jack Bauer. They did okay…

Meet Jesse Hughes. The drugs like him. He likes Death Metal. He’s got alot of tattoos. For example the “Pigeons Of Shit Metal” tattoo, which he got after Axl Rose called his band “Pigeons Of Shit Metal”. Jesse Hughes knows about mythology, too. He can recite Merlin’s charm of making. His new album with The Eagles Of Death Metal is called “Heart On”, what a pun indeed.
Check out the iNterview “Eagles Of Death Metal” on Hobnox.
